Interview with George Christian, a journalist, a public relations executive, and former press secretary to President Lyndon B. Johnson, concerning his experiences and impressions during his tenure as presidential press secretary. Christian discusses the role of White House task forces in policy-making, presidential decision-making, the importance of staff work, executive-legislative relationships, the functions of the press secretary, and communications and logistics. He also talks about government secrecy, presidential news conferences, White House newspaper reporters, the problem of credibility, party discipline and loyalty, Johnson's staff, and he comments on Lyndon Johnson, Joseph Califano, Walt Rostow, and George Ball.

Lyndon Baines Johnson, also known as LBJ, was born on August 27, 1908 at Stonewall, Texas. He was the first child of Sam Ealy Johnson, Jr., and Rebekah Baines Johnson, and had three sisters and a brother: Rebekah, Josefa, Sam Houston, and Lucia. George Eastland Christian (b. Jan. 1, 1927-d. Nov. 27, 2002, Austin, Tex.) was a University of Texas graduate. He served as an assistant to Senator Price Daniel in 1956, an assistant to Texas Governor Price Daniel from 1957 to 1963, and an assistant to Texas Governor John Connally from 1963 to 1966. He served as press secretary to Texas governors Prince Daniel and John B. Connally. He was also a White House Press Secretary and Special Assistant to President Lyndon B. Johnson from 1966 to 1969. ...
